               The Android M developer preview was recently launched at Google I/O 2015 in San Francisco.While Android Lollipop introduced a new visual aesthetic, Android M brings some much-needed stability and usability improvements which might not be as eye-catching, but may prove to be significant additions for a while to come.

Features:

 

 

1. App permissions:

 

            Users now are able to choose to accept or deny individual permissions as they see fit. Permissions have also been simplified.Permissions will now be requested the first time you try to use a feature, not at the point of installation.


For example: 
       If you want to record a voice message, WhatsApp will prompt you with a one-time request for permission to use your mic: if you still wish to give it access and record the message, you can, but you don't have to. Android M is giving users greater control of the information apps can access, and this is a truly positive step forward for Android.

2. Web experience:

    

        Chrome Custom Tabs is a new feature that gives developers a way to harness all of Chrome's capabilities, while still keeping control of the look and feel of the experience.Chrome Custom Tabs will allow apps to open a customized Chrome window on top of the active app, instead of launching the Chrome app separately. This will provide a faster and more intuitive user-experience when navigating between apps and the web. Chrome Custom Tabs supports automatic sign-in, saved passwords, autofill, and multi-process security to assist the integration of the app and web experience.
  

3. Fingerprint support: 

 

 

                 This new functionality will allow fingerprint scanners to be used not only to unlock phones, but to make purchases shopping in real-life or within Play Store apps.

 

4. Mobile payments:

 

            Android Pay is Google's new mobile payments system designed to make the checkout process easier and faster.Google is aiming to provide "simplicity, security, and choice," with Android Pay, allowing you to use your existing credit cards to pay for products in more than 700,000 stores in the US.

5. App links:

 

                 App links are being changed in M so that Android has a greater awareness of which apps can open content directly, instead of stopping users every time with the dialog box. If you tap a Twitter link in an email, for example, the Twitter app will open automatically instead of prompting you to ask if you want to use Twitter to view it.You may be familiar with the "Open with" dialogue box which appears when you try to open a link within an app on Android. You might be asked if you want to open a link with YouTube, or with Chrome, for example.

6. Power and charging:

 

               Android M makes use of a new function known as Doze to improve device standby time. By using motion detectors, Android will recognize when devices haven’t been interacted with for a while, such as when a person is asleep or a device has been left on a table, to reduce background processes.Google tested two Nexus 9 devices, one running Lollipop and one running the Android M preview, and learned that M will provide up to two-times longer standby time. Even in Doze mode, your Android can still start alarms or notify you of priority notifications.



The Android M Developer Preview is available now for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player, and the final version is due to launch in Q3, 2015.

AndroRAT: a tool that allow the hack of Android mobile devices

AndroRAT is just one of the numerous open-source tools that was created and published on the                        undergroud forums to allow the hack of Android mobile devices.

                                      AndroRAT is an open-source tool that was created and published on the Internet in November 2012, it is a RAT (Remote Access Tool)  for Android OS and exactly as any other RATs, it allows a remote attacker to control the victim. Usually the RATs have a user friendly control panel that makes possible the control of victims, in the same way AndroRAT can control, make phone calls and send SMS messages of infected devices, it is also able to get its GPS coordinates, access to files stored on the handset and activate and use the microphone and camera. The fact that Android OS has increased its popularity has had as consequences an increase of malicious code developed for the Google’s platform, RATs included.

The RAT comes in the form of an APK which is the standard application format for Android. When used in conjunction with the AndroRAT APK binder, it easily allows an attacker with limited expertise to automate the process of infecting any legitimate Android application with AndroRAT, thus Trojanizing the app. When the Trojanized version of the legitimate app is installed on the device, the user unsuspectingly installs AndroRAT alongside the legitimate app they intended to install. This allows the attacker to circumvent elements of the Android security model through deception. To date, Symantec has counted 23 cases of popular legitimate apps being Trojanized in the wild with AndroRAT.

Subsequently, we have also spotted a commercial Java RAT named Adwind (Backdoor.Adwind) that already supports multiple operating systems and seems to be in the process of incorporating an Android module based off the AndroRAT open source code. Again, this RAT also features a graphical user interface allowing the attackers to manage and control the RAT remotely.

                       A demonstration video that shows Adwind working with Android also shows the presence of AndroRAT on the infected phone, suggesting that the authors of Adwind may be customizing the AndroRAT tool to incorporate it into Adwind. This development comes as no surprise, as the open source nature of the AndroRAT code means it can be easily customized into new threats and tools.

                       At present, Symantec telemetry shows only several hundred infections of Android.Dandro worldwide, with the United States and Turkey being the most targeted countries. However, the telemetry is reporting a rise in infection numbers as of late, which we expect will continue as both the availability and sophistication of tools for AndroRAT increase.

           Google is aware of the wave of attacks that is targeting Android OS, it has recently published on its official blog a few suggestions on how to protect user’s mobile devices:

             1. Lock your device screen.

             2. Protect your phone from suspicious apps. 

             3. Locate, ring and wipe a misplaced device.

                    Windows 8 is an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs.

Development of this operating system started before the release of its predecessor in 2009. Its existence was first announced in January 2011 at Consumer Electronics Show. During its development and test phases, Microsoft released three pre-release versions: Developer Preview (September 13, 2011), Consumer Preview (February 29, 2012), and Release Preview (May 31, 2012).                                                      On August 1 , 2012, Windows 8 (build 9200) was released to manufacturing. Microsoft plans to hold a launch event on October 26, 2012 and release Windows 8 for general availability on the next day. If you want to play video or music files in just about any format, VLC media player is probably your answer.


VLC media player is the most successful free open source multimedia player out there with over 500 million downloads according to the developers. VLC media player isn't as intuitive as iTunes as a media manager, but it's a much more flexible player in terms of file formats. • Run Multiloader and select BRCM2153 under controls and then select Boot Change .
